The Vibe

Designed by Jacob Jaskov and published by Uloomi, The Vibe is a vibrant Dixit-style game where a player is trying to communicate a word to the other players by laying out a row of pictures so that the leftmost picture is most closely associated with the word and the rightmost picture least applicable. To get the right word from those on display, players need to vibe with each other (ie: be on the same wavelength).

The most immediately striking thing about The Vibe is the artwork on the cards. Each of them is quite literally a work of art: prints of painting taken from some of the major art galleries in Europe. There will be some folk who buy this game just for the art. Nevertheless, there's a very good party game here too. It's a fully cooperative game, playable with just two but playable equally well with much higher player counts. The game suggests it's suitable for up to six players but you could comfortably accommodate more, and if you're playing with many more you could easily modify The Vibe and play it as a competitive team game, much as you would Codenames (CGE).

The Vibe is impressively versatile. You can readily vary the difficulty by altering the number of words on display: you make the game easier by reducing the number of words and harder by increasing them. You can also further step up the difficulty by requiring the clue-giver to reference two words rather than one: setting the paintings out in a cross shape so that the clue for one word runs from left to right and the other from top to bottom...

We picked up our copy of The Vibe at this year's Spiel Essen, so we've only had it for a few weeks but it's already earned its place as one of our 'go to' Games Night fillers. And definitely one to break out for the upcoming seasonal parties.
