Nessie

Designed by Kiko Domenes and Josep Anton Font, and published by 2Tomatoes, Nessie is a light family-friendly push-your-luck card game for 2-6 players. The premise is that you are in a boat on Loch Ness in Scotland, searching for treasure and for the legendary Loch Ness Monster...

The game is played using a deck that comprises a mix of treasure cards (value 1-3) and cards that show one of the six sections of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster. On your turn, you must flip at least one card but you can reveal and add to the shared display as many cards as you like, one at a time, until you either Stick or Sink.

When a player decides to Stick, they take as many cards from the central display as they like and add them to their personal, face-up collection, but cards can only be taken in the reverse order of their reveal (ie: from the right of the display). If a Nessie card duplicates one you've already collected, you must discard it along with one of your treasure cards.

You Sink if the values of the treasure cards revealed in the display add up to 6 or more or if, in the display and your individual collected cards, there are three Nessie cards with the same letter. When a player Sinks their turn ends and all the cards in the shared display are discarded.

Nessie is attractively presented, with appealing cartoon art from Ariadna Altimira, and its simple rules and text-free cards mean that even quite young children can play and enjoy the game. Players will of course initially be tempted to pick up everything they can but players soon realise that there can be a tactical advantage in leaving cards in the display that make it more likely that the next player will Sink...
