Cookie Box: Pokemon

Cookie Box is a real-time speed game where players are racing to be the first to arrange their plastic poker chip tiles so that they match the patterns shown on cards. And to make things a little more challenging, the plastic poker chips are all double-sided with a different image on each side.

The edition shown in our Board's Eye View is in fact a reskin of the cookie and donut themed game of Cookie Box (Korea Board Games) that was originally published in 2016. This explains why the poker chip tiles show Pokémon rather than cookies, tho' not why the Cookies have been retained in the title. In fact, Jean-Claude Pellin's design has formed the basis of several similar games over the years; for example, Nine Tiles (Oink Games).

If you're a Pokémon fan, you'll be immediately drawn to this game for its art and for the Pokémon-style bell which players hit when they think they've scored a pattern match. But you don't have to love Pokémon to get a kick out of playing this well-designed pattern-matching speed game. It's a game with a memory element (it certainly helps if you can remember what's on a tile's reverse side) but primarily it's a family and children's game of frenetic tile flipping.
