Bloc Inca

Djeco's series of Sologic games covers a wide range of solitaire puzzlers. We've previously featured several of them, including Traffic Logic and Path Path Logic. With their varying levels of challenge the Sologic games cater for a wide age range. That's true too of Bloc Inca, but of all the Sologic games we've played so far, this is the one that's the most challenging from the outset, so likely to appeal more to adults and older children.

As with all Djeco's games, Bloc Inca is beautifully produced. It comprises 16 wooden blocks, each of which has four coloured pegs firmly fixed in place, and with an indented underside so that any block stacks comfortably on top of another block's pegs. Evoking the pyramids built by the Incas, the challenge in this game is to stack a set number of blocks to produce a construct that matches what's shown on the challenge card. The level at which a block can be placed in a pyramid is indicated by that block's colour; so the natural wood blocks are all used at first/ground level, green blocks are on the second tier and blue blocks are placed at third tier. It's not quite as simple as it sounds, however, because all pegs that have a block on them must be covered with exactly the same colour of peg...

Designers Yoann Levet and Johannes Goupy have given us 60 challenges in Bloc Inca, each with just a single solution (all given in the back of the rulebook). The simplest, shown in our Board's Eye View 360, uses just three blocks stacked over two levels but finding the right blocks with the pegs in just the right positions isn't quite as easy as you might think. And things quickly step up in difficulty as you progress through the challenge cards and tackle more difficult constructs using more of the blocks.

As with all the games in Djeco's Sologic series, you can extend Bloc Inca from solitaire to multiplayer by adding a timer so that players are competing consecutively to complete one or more puzzles in the shortest time. However you play, Bloc Inca is a satisfyingly challenging pattern recognition puzzler.
